Our base camps are located in Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Washington. At the base camp the instructors will greet all of the students and help them prepare the gear that will be necessary for the trip and activities. The students are only required to bring the clothes and shoes necessary for the trip, and typically all of the gear and food necessary for a journey is provided. Not long after the students arrive at the base camp they will begin to learn some basic skills specific to the chosen outdoor program that they will need to know to be successful. Once the students receive their gear, meet the instructors and other students, and learn some necessary skills, then the journey begins. When the students leave base camp, they enter a whole new world of challenging terrain and unpredictable weather that will make achieving day-to-day objectives as well as over all course goals a very rewarding experience. Working with a team to accomplish a common goal also provides a dynamic that is easily applicable to everyday life. At some point during the program, as the students become more proficient at life in the outdoors, the instructors may ask one or more of the students to lead the group during travel or an activity. Depending on the nature of the course and other variable factors like the weather, students may have the opportunity to have a solo experience. A solo may last anywhere from a few hours to overnight allowing the individual to really look within for strength, courage and provide time for self-assessment. Finally, the instructors will facilitate a final experience that is designed to test the the core of the group as well as the core of the individual.
